A flexible digital event

The event takes place online, making it possible to participate regardless of where you live. During the Selective Mutism Awareness Day, you will get access to a collection of pre-recorded interviews and presentations with professionals from different countries and professional backgrounds. The presentations and interviews are pre-recorded for several reasons. This makes it possible to include professionals from different countries and allows contributors to participate at a time that works for them. It also means that the presentations is subtitled or translated when needed, making the event more accessible to an international audience:  Two of the interviews are in English, featuring professionals from the UK and the USA. The interviews with Daniel Jensen are in Norwegian and Danish, but with subtitels. In addition, you will receive a bonus presentation by Speech and Language Therapist Linda Steinsland from Norway, which has been translated into English. The contributions cover different perspectives on selective mutism, including treatment, therapy, support and practical approaches for teenagers and adults. All content will be available throughout the weekend, giving you the opportunity to watch the interviews and presentations at your own pace.

Course Host &  Organizer of The Selective Mutism Awareness Day

My name is Linda Steinsland, and I am a Norwegian speech and language therapist and the founder of Snakkero, a specialist centre focusing on selective mutism. I am also the creator and organizer of The Selective Mutism Awareness Day in Norway. I graduated as a speech and language therapist in 2007 and hold a Master’s degree in Special Education with a specialization in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Oslo. I have experience from both the educational psychology service (PPT) and Oslo University Hospital, and I have worked in private practice since 2012. Over the years, I have developed a particular specialization in selective mutism. I have attended international conferences and completed a Masterclass in Selective Mutism with Maggie Johnson, a leading expert in the field. Through Snakkero, I provide therapy, guidance and courses for children, teenagers and adults with selective mutism, as well as support and guidance for parents and professionals. I am passionate about increasing knowledge and understanding of selective mutism among professionals, parents and others who meet or work with people with selective mutism. I believe that greater knowledge and understanding can make a significant difference in how people with selective mutism are met and supported. My goal is to help create more understanding, acceptance and appropriate support, so that people with selective mutism can feel safe, understood and respected in the situations they encounter.
